Eddie Hamilton, DC Ice & Melanie Sinclair | CHARACTER sketch
- opening reception: thursday, september 9, 7-9pm
- exhibition dates: september 9 - october 9, 2010
The use of a protagonist to portray aspects of human behavior is the common thread that runs through this exhibition. Creating characters within their work allows these artists to tackle complex and often subtle concepts such as bravery or individuality. This show features acrylic paintings by Eddie Hamilton, scratchboards by DC Ice, and watercolors by Melanie Sinclair.
Eddie Hamilton
Eddie Hamilton’s paintings represent the embodiment of human interaction on a passage through the years. His characters have a delicate and intentional proximity to each other, often reflecting the supporting balance and power within relationships. Some of his characters, like cowboy, hero or king, represent the ability of each individual at any moment to transform from an ordinary person, into a unique and powerful soul, and then return to an ordinary life.
DC Ice
DC Ice’s paintings and drawings are a safe place to explore hurtful and cruel feelings without guilt. Her illustrative characters and themes usually carry an unconscious malign mood. Soft pastel colors mask the suspicious character’s twisted thoughts, and harsh scratchy marks outline innocent animal friends. Her work is an ongoing battle between sinister and sweet.
Melanie Sinclair
Melanie Sinclair’s watercolors express a search for, and acknowledgement of, independence in a society that prefers homogenization. She expresses her thoughts through a range of incomplete characters that symbolize the continual process of growth. The lean, constricted landscapes combined with a new blend of dimension and color, populated with quirky characters that have their own little skewed bit of real estate speak to the human condition.
