director's statement:

In 2009, when I came to California City for the first time, I was equally shocked and fascinated by this place. From far away it looked peaceful and perfect, but the closer I got, the stranger it felt, like something wasn’t right. The houses were empty, the water in the pools turning green – there were no people. I felt like I had landed in a novel by Philip K. Dick. I wanted to make a film. A film about how we got lost in a system, and we were left with empty shells and promises of an idea. Loss, emptiness, crisis and its consequences. Those were the central themes for my film.
